Sea shells and bathroom tiles
We’re thinking of overhauling our en-suite bathroom.
I’ve never before been responsible for such a permanent home makeover, so to help give me a feel for how it might come together I’ve started a design board. Our local tile showroom kindly let us borrow some samples, including this natural marble and these blue-grey mosaic tiles.
I was trying to decide if they ‘worked’ in combination, when I realised that together they reflect the colours of these local sea shells, which are displayed in a glass jar on the bathroom window sill.
These images started out as something to include on the design board…
… but turned into a full-scale Sea Shell Photoshoot!
And yes, I’ve decided they could work…
But they are not the only option!
Oh, decisions, decisions…!
Wishing you a happy weekend.

Thank you
Merci beaucoup
Thank you

I love the colour, so natural. Today I was by the sea with my husband and I brought seasells home, they’re the same of yours!!!
Have a nice weekend.
Interesting that we have similar shells. But I suppose both our shores are washed by the Atlantic – although to reach me the water of the Atlantic has to travel a little way up the English Channel.
I really like the mosaiac look, but would it be fiddly or does it come in sheets? And the sea shells are so pretty, I’v never managed to return form the beach without a few in my pocket…when I saw the overview of the jar of shells I thought they were embedded in transparent something, and was actually a tile. Wouldn’t it be magic if you could make seashell tiles to put at intervals?
Have no fear, Heckety! The mosaic tiles do come on sheets! What you see here is a strip of them joined together with a sort of webbing, but they actually come joined in squares of about 40cm.
These are gorgeous and the colours in the shells compliment them beautifully. The colour is so versatile too … if you’re like me and like painting the walls a different colour every couple of years (drives husband mad) it would work well
Thanks Deb.
Actually, I find redecorating a huge chore and a complete inconvenience, so we are unlikely to repaint the walls every couple of years! Although – at least in the bathroom there isn’t loads of stuff to be moved, as there is in other rooms…
I hope your quilts for Deborah House project is progressing well.
I love Your sea shells. They have lovely color to my mind. Sometimes we collected them also, but now we might pick up some special looking stone.
Happy Sunday!
It looks like it will create a light, airy effect in the room – a good look!
Ahoy there, there’s patchwork in them thar tiles!
Really like the colour scheme.
Love the color of these tiles but have some practical concerns such as how often doyou have to reseal them and can you ever get them really clean with all the holes and divets in them? You could apply some of your shells as accents by applying them just like the tile, cutting out the spaces needed with an exacto. Hugs from Alaska.
Thanks Sherry. We’re assured they only need to be sealed once, at the time of application. I assume this would fill the deeper holes.
Congratulations on your wonderful photographs. The marriage of Bath stone square with the curves of sea shells was fantastic.
A hug.
Carlos.
love the tiles with the seashells, wonderful soothing colors.
oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! Gorgeous!
