Skywatch Friday: Skies over Sandown Bay
Last Sunday I posted some images of my blustery walk along Sandown Bay. Here are a few more from that same day, this time with an emphasis on looking up. This is Skywatch Friday, after all…
You can click on each of these images for a full screen view.
All of the bird images in this post are black headed gulls. Other sea birds were out and about that day but they didn’t want their photographs taken. I couldn’t say if this is the same black headed gull three times or three different ones. I’m sure their mothers can tell them apart but sadly, I can’t!
Below, a shot of the bay, with its choppy waters at high tide and the moody sky that accompanied the strong wind.
The black headed gulls are easy to stalk and photograph. This one flew right over my head.
If you enlarge the image below you’ll see this gull is having an ‘Oh-oh!’ moment, like it’s just realised it maybe didn’t turn off the hair straighteners. (I am, alas, no stranger to such moments myself…)
And finally, this path between the back of the waterfront apartments and the cliff takes you back up from the water’s edge to the cliff path. I like this combination of colours, and nature meeting architecture.

I too do love to take pictures of gulls – and I envy you these of the black headed gulls.

Back in the blog groove again…
Trying to catch up with everyone.
The gulls in flight are just amazing… fantastic.
Wonderful shots, I like the way you also caught the surf too. Thanks for sharing:)
Oh such wonderful shots.
My entry is here: http://calrat.blogspot.com
Nicely done on the architecture and trees in one shot angle. Wonderful series of images really captures that seaside blustery day feel.
Nice shots of the gulls against a semi stromy sky. I like the contrast in the last shot.
Fun collection for Sky Watch Friday with the view of the horizon from your place.
Great skywatching in your place with the birds adding accent on the scenery.
Awesome skies. Beautiful shots
Great shots, all of them! Your skies look so clean and clear…I bet the air is wonderful to breathe! I love the clouds moving over the shore…very wild looking. I just got back from Los Angeles today – the sky is so hazy there, nothing at all like what you get to experience!
What a lovely deep blue sky! Here up North a deep blue sky usually means it’s very cold or very warm.
Black headed gulls are such beautiful birds – much daintier than other gulls we have around here! They are already losing their breeding plumage in London, makes me sad, makes me realise summer is getting on. These are beautiful pics, I especially love the uh-oh moment! Happy Skywatching!
What a good collection of jolly skies. I love the gull photos (especially the ‘uh-oh’ moment
Maybe the ‘oh – oh’ moment was when the gull spotted you. Paparazzi!
Just wonderful, I did enlarge and enjoyed even more.
Oh, they make me wanna lean back and sit in front of my screen, just relaxing by looking at them.
Beautiful!
Ha! Love that uh-oh moment – what a funny thought!
Rich blue skies and great captures of the gull. The second photo is just amazing – so much content that it makes me want to stroll there with you.
Beautiful set of sky images!
Hello,
The colors and clouds in your images are vibrant and gorgeous! What an amazing day you had.
