Skywatching with Attitude

My regular Skywatch Friday post is below this.

I am no stranger to courage.   I have in fact written about it several times right here on this blog.  But in case you blinked and missed any of it, here is a brief recap of my most recent daring exploits:

Ah yes, this is indeed life in the fast lane.  Any faster and I would just be a blur…

So now I’m going to introduce you to my friend Maria.  Here she is in my garden yesterday afternoon when she came to collect my son who helps at the local Beaver group she runs (Scouting for boys and girls aged 6 to 8).  That’s also Lucy’s nose just in shot - she is never one to shy away from a photo opportunity.  Maria is also Clerk to the Board of School Governors I used to be part of, and I’ve known her about five years…

Maria

… or so I thought!

A few weeks ago Maria emailed to ask for sponsorship for her forthcoming skydive!  This was part of a package of personal challenges as Maria approaches a significant birthday landmark, as well as a chance to raise money for the local hospice.

So last Saturday was when it all happened.  I’ve been promised a viewing of the full version of the DVD when it arrives.  But you can watch a 2 minute clip of Maria’s skydive if you click here

Did you notice that bit underneath the video - where it gives booking details so you can book your own adrenaline-pumping, amazing Skydive experience?   …….  Well, I am so going to ignore that!

But I did want to tell you all about it, so that you too can admire Maria for her courage.

And maybe next time I’m hesitating over whether to take a calculated risk that would lead me closer to where I want to be, I shall think of Maria throwing herself from that aeroplane – and reporting back that ‘It was brill!’

Go Maria! What fun! Look, Postcards, I could sense you really would like to try this, so I called that number and set you up for a jump…..tomorrow.

Hi Janice. Nice to hear from you. I am o.k. taking close up photo’s but can never get a decent shot of any large piece I do. Perhaps my camera isn’t good enough, it’s not a hugely expensive one. I hear what you say about external hard drives, I keep meaning to buy one but this has prompted me to actually get out there and do it, I was frantic as you can imagine! I have some images here of damp stretching if you want to have a look,

I was told the importance of it at uni and it has stuck with me. I am always amazed when I hear of people who don’t do it because it really enhances the work. Even uninished work, work in progress, is damp stretched at every stage. For example if I apply cutwork to a piece, I will then damp stretch it before I embellish the remaining fabric and then damp stretch again before the next thing and so on.

Have a great weekend by the sea! Karen
p.s. I posted this as a comment because I e-mailed it to you but I got it returned as undelivered?

    Oh, shiver and chills.
Nah, I rather watch other people do it and – like you – admire their courage.
I’m not good with heights any more, bbbrr….. :)

Well it’s not that far from setting up a Flicker account to skydiving, after all…

I’d rather hangglide than skydive – maybe someday.

Your friend is to be applauded!
