Scenic Sunday: Poppies
The garden is looking so lovely just now. June has to be my favourite time of year for taking photographs out there. I’m particularly fond of macro shots of flowers, which works especially well for poppies – there are just so many interesting angles!
A lot of self-seeding has been going on with the poppies, but I enjoy them so much that I’m happy to leave them wherever they grow. I love the rich colours, and one of the varieties we have – that darker one – I don’t know their names – has an abundance of particularly luxuriant petals.
I noticed this little group growing just outside the windows of our conservatory and it struck me that it includes all the stages of the poppy’s flowering cycle. The images that follow are just of this little group plus another mauve coloured one that’s immediately to the right and too low to fit in the shot.
Things tend to take on gigantic proportions in our garden. The pink poppy here is so tall I had to stand on a chair to take this shot:
I adore the richness of these colours:
There’s a whole poppy itching to get out of here! Not long to go now:
Also taken from the chair, this has got to be one of my favourite shots:
And finally – this mauve colour with lime green is unexpected but wonderfully zingy:
What a lovely way to spend a few minutes in the garden! Hope you enjoyed them too.

Really great shots! I have tried to grow poppies in my yard several times and had no luck! I am going to have to study about how to cultivate them.
